Abstract:Rural tourism has become an important driving force for comprehensively promoting rural revitalization, but external risk management and quality of life assessment for community residents in the context of tourism industry vulnerability require urgent attention and exploration. Previous studies on residents' quality of life in rural tourism communities mainly focus on assessing the “net effect” of residents' perceived tourism impacts, while the subjective cognition process from residents' perspective is relatively neglected, which fails to unveil the complexity of antecedents of residents' quality of life. The complex interactions between residents' self-efficacy and values on the quality of life has become the core issue in the specific practice and theoretical research of rural tourism. Taking Beigou Village, Beijing, as a case, a configurational model was constructed using social cognitive theory and complexity theory, with fsQCA and ANFIS applied to investigate the complex causal relationships among self-efficacy, values and residents' quality of life and determine the key factors contributing to residents' high-level quality of life. The results are shown as follows. 1) The cognitive forming paths of residents' quality of life in rural tourism communities are complex and heterogeneous. 2) Residents' self-efficacy is the key factor in predicting high-level quality of life but not necessary. 3) Residents' values of horizontal individualism are not essential in predicting high-level quality of life, but play a central role in forming the configuration of low-quality resident life. These results contribute to a broader understanding of the social cognitive paths of residents' quality of life in rural tourism communities and provide theoretical basis for improving residents' quality of life, enhancing the community's ability to respond with uncertainty and promoting the sustainable development of rural tourism.
