Spatial-temporal characteristics and evolution of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Yangtze River Economic Zone

Abstract：The Yangtze River Economic Zone is one of the main cultural corridors in China， which gathers the main cultural characteristics of the Yangtze River Basin. Taking Intangible Cultural Heritage as the main carrier， the historical evolution and spatial distribution characteristics of different types of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Yangtze River Economic Zone are studied， so as to explore the evolution of the cultural development of the Yangtze River Economic Zone. By using kernel density estimation method and the gravity center migration model the historical evolution process of 858 national Intangible Cultural Heritages in the Yangtze River Economic Zone are investigated. It is found as follows. 1) The number of Intangible Cultural Heritage is uneven in different historical periods， showing six fluctuating structural characteristics， which generally display the characteristics of originating from ancient times， maturing in Song and Tang Dynasties and flourishing in Ming and Qing Dynasties. 2) During the period of Jin Dynasty， the center of Intangible Cultural Heritage focus in the Yangtze River Economic Zone shifted from northeast to southwest. 3) Except for the lagging development of traditional sports， traditional drama， traditional medicine and folk art， the other Intangible Cultural Heritage development fluctuated with the changes of historical periods. 4) The connotation and structure of Intangible Cultural Heritage have gone through three periods sequentially as： depending on nature and advocating gods in the early stage； conquering nature in the middle stage and pursuing artistic beauty on the basis of satisfying basic life needs； and pursuing quality of life with advanced technology as well as paying attention to the healthy development of body and mind in the late stage.
