Abstract:The rapid development of robotics technology is providing new impetus for the green development and transformation of the tourism industry worldwide. Based on the theory of disruptive innovation, this article takes China’s provincial tourism industry from 2010 to 2019 as the research object, utilizes data from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), and combines the super-efficiency SBM model and fixed-effect model to measure and analyze the impact of robot applications on the green innovation efficiency of the tourism industry. The study found that: 1) Robot applications drive the improvement of green innovation efficiency in the tourism industry, and this conclusion remains valid when considering endogenous issues and conducting robustness tests. 2) Robot applications can have a positive effect on the green innovation efficiency of the tourism industry through two paths: enhancing regional tourism density and improving tourism industry competitiveness. 3) Reducing general human capital in the tourism industry can strengthen the promotion effect of robot applications on green innovation; 4) There is significant regional heterogeneity in the positive impact of robot applications on the green innovation efficiency of the tourism industry. This study provides a new perspective for understanding the development of green innovation efficiency in China’s tourism industry, and also provides empirical evidence and strategic suggestions for rational use of robots to improve the green innovation efficiency of the tourism industry.
