Abstract In the market economy era， the living space of Hutong-Quadrangle can be used as a kind of production object or merchandise. In fact， the city reconstruction is a kind of profit-making production of space dominated by property developers. Under the condition of urban renewal in Beijing， Hutong citizens have to move to the suburbs because of the limited financial circumstances. Meanwhile，the wealthy people move to urban center instead of them. It means that the space reformation in city is also the reconstruction of class distribution and social structure， which cause the identity crisis of Hutong citizens.
