| Between Tradition and Modern Times： A Study of the Leading Group of the China National Amateur Athletic Federation (1924－1949) |

Abstract Most of the leading members of the China National Amateur Athletic Federation were elected and replaced in a high proportion， but there were also some problems such as low replacement frequency and long-term control by the minority. The social structure of leading group showed that the selection of leading members was not based solely on the professional ability and the degree of concern and participation in conference affairs. Birthplace， age， educational background and even gender were also important factors. The composition and changes of the leading group of the China National Amateur Athletic Federation swang between tradition and modern times for a long time， in a state of being both old and new， as well as between China and the West. This was the reflection of the characteristics of the times in which tradition and modern times penetrate and interweave each other in the process of social changes in modern China.
