Abstract “Publishing life history” emerged in response to the trend of “involution” in the study of publishing history， with the view of bringing a new academic aspect to the study of publishing history. Publishing life history refers to all the history related to publishing life， with its core focusing on the daily life history of publishing practitioners and of those who were closely related to publishing. As for the study of publishing life history， scholars mainly centre on publishers’ economic life and communication life， paying little attention to their leisure life. The research of publishing life history should avoid trivialization and be guided by the consciousness of questions. In terms of research methods， it should follow the principle of “dividing fields， dividing time periods and dividing themes”.
