Abstract The new mainstream film represents the creation requirements and aesthetic orientation of Chinese film art in the new era and is also deeply influenced by the communication concept of new media based on the Internet. Therefore, to examine the cultural characteristics and cultural representations of new mainstream films in the era context and the media field will be conductive to an in-depth understanding of their development trend and multiple cultural attributes and further guide the future practice. From this point of view, the “new” in the new mainstream films is mainly manifested in two aspects. First, it always adheres to the mainstream values of China in the new era as the basic concept and spiritual pillar to guide film creation, integrates the world’s film strengths with broad artistic vision and strengthens its own cultural character on the basis of fully respecting the laws of art. Second, it keeps pace with the times, uses new media to explore creative materials, innovates presentation forms, enhance communication flow and constantly adjusts the operation mode to adapt to the more uncertain new media field in response to challenges, showing a completely different new style from the previous Chinese films.
