Abstract This paper examines Lu yao’s representative novel-The Ordinary World in terms of its theme of self-redemption and its correlation with many contemporary works. In particular, it studies how this novel manages to enlighten the young with its philosophical thinking of self-redemption,and how it succeeds in finding an exordinary way of searching for traditions, which establishes its status as a literary classic with unique aesthetic value in Chinese literature of the 1980s.
