Abstract Literary symposiums on modern literature have produced abundant book reviews with distinctive theoretical features. Devoted to providing guidance with literary practice, they prove to be enlightening as measured by the standard of “literature for human beings”. Directed by the guideline of “for the sake of human life,” they promote realistic criticism, their attention focused on objective depiction, onsite observation and realistic connotation. They forge cordial resonance with sentimental peculiarities out of “literature soaked in blood and tears”. They facilitate coordination between Chinese literature and world literature with brand-new world perspectives in their research into Chinese literature. Such book reviews from literary symposiums have fulfilled the construction of modern Chinese literary criticism, and provide new perspectives for modern Chinese literary studies.
