Abstract Regional governance in metropolitan areas has been a key public policy topic since the 20~(th) century.Some scholars make a heated argument about the theory of gigantic government,the polycentric governance and the new regionalism.However,governance mechanisms are not omnipotent.Therefore,the governance mechanisms should be diverse in metropolitan areas.All kinds of governance mechanisms should be comprehensively applied and respectively chosen under different circumstance.It is beneficial to govern regional problems in China.
