Abstract During the socialist revolution and construction period, Zhou Enlai contributed greatly to insist on Mao Zedong literary and artistic thought and to develop the sinicization of Marxist literary and artistic criticism. His outstanding contributions mainly include the following aspects: he explored how to develop Marxist literary and artistic theory to follow the change of times by using practical thinking; based on his correct understanding and complete grasp of the basic rules of Marxist literary and artistic theory,he discussed the internal and external rules of literature and art;he opposed to political and cultural despotism by insisting on political democracy, democratic thought and artistic democracy, and his endeavor built a nice atmosphere for literary creation and criticism;he studied the nationalization of Marxist literary and artistic theory and criticism by insisting on the principle of taking Chinese culture and contemporary situation as the dominant factors. “Modernization”, “scientification”, “democratization” and “nationalization” are the pillars of Zhou Enlai literary and artistic thought system. These factors are also the fundamental starting point of his contribution of the sinicization of Marxist literary and artistic theory.
