Abstract:Black phosphorus (BP), as a novel two-dimensional material, displays great application potential in the field of electrocatalytic water splitting, due to its large specific surface area, abundant active electrons, tunable band gap and high carrier mobility. However, BP is easily oxidative degradation, which greatly limits its practical application. Based on the structure and properties of BP, this review first elaborates the electrocatalytic mechanism of BP on hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Subsequently, the electrocatalytic modification strategies of BP, including morphology control, heteroatom doping, defect introduction and composite construction are summarized. Finally, the challenges and the future research focus in the development of high performance BP-based electrocatalysts are prospected.
