Abstract:In field work, it is difficult for positivist thinking to see two genuine knowing processes. First of all, narratives about field facts are not just an accumulation of objective experience; it is what makes an empirical phenomenon a fact that needs to be analyzed. The researcher is driven by a sense of misfit between the field experience and the original factual understanding to find new theoretical premises to reconstruct the factual qualities of the field. Second, theories are not merely objective attributes generalized from field material. The methodology of “returning to the knowing” can only be understood and expressed in the context of practical research.
