Abstract:Geo-mathematical method and Arcgis10.2 software was used to analyze the spatial distribution features and its influencing factors of the national-level characteristic towns in the Yangtze River Economic Belt (abbr. YREB). The following were the findings and conclusions: 1. It witnessed a cohesive spatial distribution of characteristic towns in the YREB; 2. A relatively uniform distribution of the characteristic towns within the YREB was found in the scale of the whole Yangtze River Economic Belt, as well as a centralized spatial distribution between provinces within the YREB; 3. The spatial distribution density of the characteristic towns decreased from the east part of the YREB to the west part of it, and in terms of the characteristic towns' spatial distribution, the densest regions included Shanghai, Nanjing and Wuxi in Jiangsu, Hangzhou and Ningbo in Zhejiang.4. Regional topography, economic development level, population size, and policy support are the main factors influencing the spatial distribution of characteristic towns in the YREB.
