Study on the spatio-temporal characteristics and driving forces of urban land expansion of Fuzhou City with spatial information techniques

Abstract:Urbanization is an important driving force for social development and economic growth. Remote Sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) technology have become important means of monitoring and analysis of urban development. In this paper Fuzhou City, which is an important gateway in the west of china, is chosen as the research area, and the Landsat TM/ETM+images of Fuzhou City in 2000~2015 are taken as the data source. The spatial information of Fuzhou urban is extracted, and spatial characteristics of land expansion along with its driving factors are analyzed from 2000 to 2015 in Fuzhou city. At the same time, the driving factors of city are studied in combination of the social, economic and cultural data of Fuzhou city from 2000 to 2015. Results show that in time, Fuzhou urban land expansion exhibits an overall upward trend, especially since 2010, when urban land expansion develops rapidly. In space, Fuzhou city urban land expansion was moved westward in the space. For the driving force, the development of population and economy along with DEM, slop, light, road, school and hospital are important factors to affect the expansion of urban land of Fuzhou city.
