Study on the spatial-temporal pattern and the influencing factors of the city innovation level of the Yangtze River Economic Belt

Abstract:Under the background of “innovation-driven development strategy” in China, the level of urban innovation is the key determinant for the ability of urban sustainable development. In this study, taking 110 cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt as the research object and based on the number of patents granted in 2010 and 2015, the spatial pattern and change of urban innovation level in Yangtze River Economic Belt were studied by means of spatial autocorrelation, local cold hotspot analysis and relative development rate index. It is found that the urban innovation level of the Yangtze River exhibts the spatial pattern of the “strong in the east and weak in the Midwest”, while characteristics of the regional differences are significant. And the spatial correlation of innovation level is strong, which indicating the trend of spatial agglomeration. At the same time, from the view of the relative development speed of regional innovation level, the provincial capital cities and municipalities directly under the Central Government in the upper and middle reaches of the region grow rapidly and develop promptly. Finally, through the establishment of multiple linear regression model, it is found that the factors that affect the level of urban innovation have the characteristics of diversification and dynamics. Among them, the urban economic base and industrial development level are the most typical influencing factors, and the improvement of enterprise innovation ability has gradually become the key factor affecting the regional innovation level.
