Abstract:The in-depth advancement of the “double first-class” Initiative has brought new opportunities and challenges to the high-quality development of university journals. Natural science journals of "double first-class" normal universities have provided vital support for disciplinary development, talent cultivation, and achievement transformation during their development process. Yet they also face numerous dilemmas due to issues such as their comprehensiveness. To summarize the development course of our journal over the past decade and explore the path to high-quality development of natural science journals of "double first-class" normal universities, statistical analysis was conducted on the publication of Journal of Central China Normal University (Natural Sciences) from 2015 to 2024 based on the CNKI database and CiteSpace visualization software. Combined with relevant journal operation measures, the findings are as follows. From 2015 to 2024, the journal published a total of 1,333 papers, with the annual average proportion of papers by on-campus authors ranging from 10.37% to 36.63%. Through optimizing the content presentation method with featured issues (columns), gradually transforming from an editor-led operation model to an editor-scholar collaborative operation model, exploring a bilingual communication model under the background of media convergence, promoting the construction of academic communities through multiple channels, and developing in synergy with the first-class discipline construction of its sponsoring university, the journal's citation indicators have steadily increased, and it has received multiple honors and funding support. However, it still faces dilemmas in sustainable development caused by insufficient value recognition of domestic sci-tech journals, an inadequate talent team, and weak international communication capacity. To address these issues, natural science journals of "double first-class" normal universities should strictly adhere to quality standards and consolidate academic foundations; make good use of digital and intelligent technologies to empower scientific research organization; optimize team structure and accelerate role transformation; and return to the academic essence to promote original innovation.
