Abstract:Thirteen compounds were isolated from the ethanol extract of agarwood “Hong-Tu” by using various column chromatographic techniques. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis as 7-methoxy-2-[2-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]chromone (1), 6-methoxy-2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone (2), 6,7-dimethoxy-2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone (3), 6-methoxy-2-[2-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]chromone (4), 6-methoxy-2-[2-(3-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]chromone (5), 5-hydroxy-6-methoxy-2-[2-(4-methoxyphenyl) ethyl]chromone (6), 6,8-dihydroxy-2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone (7),(1β,3α,4aβ,5β,8aα)-4a,5-dimethyl-3-(prop-1-en-2-yl)octahydronaphthalene-1,8a(1H)-diol (8), rel-(4S,5R,7R,8R,11R)-eremophil-9-en-12,8-olide (9), cyclodebneyol (10), methyl crassicid (11), baimuxinol (12) and 4-epi-15-hydroxyacorenone (13). Compound 1 was a new natural product. All of them were firstly isolated from agarwood “Hong-Tu”. In vitro anti-inflammatory assessment showed that compounds 3, 8 and 13 exhibited anti-inflammatory activities with IC50 values of 81.23 ± 2.83, 39.55 ± 3.75 and 72.63 ± 2.87 μmol·L-1, respectively.
