Abstract：From the original meaning of “geography” as a description of the world or the laws and regulations of the earth， it's demonstrated that the research object of human geography is human world based on natural world， and pointed out that the knowledge system of human geography textbook should be organized around answering the “5W” philosophical questions of what， where， when， why and how human world is. The answer to each philosophical question is supported by a fundamental theory. Man-land system coupling theory， geospatial organization theory， man-land co-evolution theory， man-land interaction theory and regional sustainable development theory are the basic theories to answer these philosophical questions， respectively. The theoretical basis for each branch of human geography varies， corresponding to the “5W”， which would be divided into five categories： element， spatial， time， mechanism and optimization.
