Abstract:The overall coordinated development of tourism industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt is the key to the optimization of tourism spatial pattern in China. Using the panel data of 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2001 to 2017, geospatial analysis and multiple regression analysis methods were used to study the spatial differentiation characteristics and evolution rules of tourism economy in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and to explore its intrinsic factors. The study found as follows. 1) From the perspective of the whole basin, the absolute differences in the tourism economy of the provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt have been expanding year by year, while the relative differences have been shrinking, and the specialization rate of the tourism economy has slowly increased. 2) The absolute and relative differences in tourism economy of the upper, middle and lower reaches have declined to varying degrees. The lowest regional economic level in the upper reaches of the region has highlighted the comparative advantage of tourism in the national economy. The absolute and relative differences in the provinces and cities in the middle reaches are the smallest and the largest, respectively. The relative difference in the downstream is the largest. 3)The level of regional economic development and infrastructure are the main factors affecting the spatial and temporal differentiation of tourism economy in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The degree of openness also contributes to the scale of tourism economy. 4) The tourism economy of the Yangtze River Economic Belt has formed a spatial structure of networkization at downstream, homogeneity at midstream, and specialization at upstream, which is expected to develop in a more balanced direction.
