Abstract Based on the literature reviews about evolution of Chinese and foreign political science research methods and the bibliometric analysis in Chinese and foreign political science journals， this paper draws the following conclusions.There are significant differences in the types of research methods between Chinese and foreign political science research results. It is a trend to use empirical methods， especially quantitative analysis methods. Research methods of political science in China， especially the mixed research methods， need to be improved， and the types of specific research methods are relatively simple. In the future， China’s political science research methods need to be improved in four aspects. The methods should achieve the common development between qualitative and quantitative research. The methods can’t fall in the mire of “methodology only”. The introductions of monographs need to be increased in journals. Application of the research methods should be headed the direction that is globalization and localization into a combined development.
