Focus on Xinyue School from the Viewpoint of the Overseas Chinese Students Groups
Taking overseas Chinese students groups and overseas-study culture in modern China as a new background of description and analysis, this paper especially focuses on Xinyue School's essence, tendency, characters, and status as a cultural group and school of America-Britain educated Chinese in the time of "Post-May Fourth". It is just from this new point of view that the author emphasizes that Xinyue School is not merely an ordinary literary school, but a cultural school and group that mainly consist of returned students from USA and UK in the time around "May Fourth". Furthermore, American-British education and culture not only greatly affect Xinyue School's cultural, ideological and literary choices but also vest Xinyue School as well as modern Chinese culture and literature with distinct inclinations and characteristics in terms of unfolding from multi-sources to multi-configurations and in the interactions between multi-traditions and multi-developments.

Wuhan and Hong Kong: A Comparative Study of Their Urban Community Services
This paper, through the author's on-the-spot investigations, attempts to demonstrate that Hong Kong differs from Wuhan in urban community service. In terms of its carrier, Hong Kong has a social stratification community structure while Wuhan a natural industry community structure; organizationally, Hong Kong is highly autonomous while Wuhan is rather administrative; with regard to the employees, Hong Kong is specialized in personnel while Wuhan socialized; as for the expenditure on the service, Hong Kong is financed mainly by the government and partly supported by public donations while Wuhan subsidized by community industries, with free services supported by charged services; regarding the types of service, Hong Kong lays much stress on spiritual indirect services while Wuhan on material direct services. Therefore, Wuhan's urban community service should become specialized and welfare-oriented.

Technological Innovation Modes and Their Selection
This paper studies the technological innovation modes and their characteristics in an attempt to put forward several modes adopted by some institutions in today's China. It maintains that technological innovations, considering the different innovation sources and systems, take three main forms-self-reliance innovation, cooperative innovation and transference innovation-which differ from each other in terms of dependence on innovators' capacity, achievement rates and efficiency as well as service systems. Each unit that intends to make technological innovations must select its own technological modes according to its technological power and technology itself. And each country must select its dominating modes in certain periods in light of its technological systems, economic systems, relationship between technological institutions and enterprises and well-established service systems. As far as present-day China is concerned, cooperative innovation inevitably should constitute the main mode.

On Motif of Comparative Mythology
This paper deals with the technical term "motif" indispensable to the study of comparative mythology which has its special objects of study but lacks special theoretical methods and technical terms. Holding that "motif", as a fundamental element of myth, should be the essential concept of comparative mythology and thus should serve as the logical foundation of the building of comparative mythology theory, it studies its origin , meaning in different disciplines, definition in comparative mythology, difference from theme, image and archetype, and special function in mythology study.

On the Government''''s Role in Handicraft Industry Between 1919 and 1937
This paper deals with chiefly the policies and measures for handicraft adopted by both Beijing and Nanjing Governments during 1912-1937. According to it, the temporary industrial and commercial conference held in 1912 established the foundations for Beijing Government's handicraft policies, which gave an impetus to "Golden Times" of handicraft economy in 1920s. The proposal of the economic conference held in 1930 quickened the technology substitution in handicraft production and promoted the transformation of the handicraft into machine production. It argues that Nanjing Government's policies of handcraft remolding which were in agreement with the objective law of economic development, to a certain degree, stirred up handicraftsmen's enthusiasm for technological innovation, thus promoting the advancement of handicraft industry economy.

Confucianism and Taoism in the Theory of Lao Tse in Song and Yuan Dynasties
Through an analysis of the various annotations and different views about Lao Tse in the Song and the Yuan dynasties, when the theory of Lao Tse developed to a climax, this paper maintains that the integration of Confucianism and Taoism is an important feature of the development of the theory of Lao Tse in the Song and the Yan dynasties. Studying the views of Wang Anshi and Du Daojian, we can find that the theory of Lao Tse and Confucianism, Confucianism and Taoism in the Song and the Yan dynasties became much more closely interrelated, which demonstrates that such fusion is an inevitable historical tendency.

Challenges and Policy Decision Facing China''''s Teachers'''' Colleges of Higher Learning at the End of the 20th Century
At the end of this century, our teachers colleges are facing various challenges, the main ones of which are the shock from the socialist market economy to our teacher training system based on traditional planned economy, the increasing requirements of intellectual economy for qualified teaching staff, the urgent demands made by the development of our elementary education on raising the academic level and specialty quality of our teachers, the permission of China's famous universities to run teachers colleges by the state; the increasing distance caused by the state's increasing investment in the state key universities. All these challenges will make a decisive, fundamental and all-round impact on the future of China's teachers colleges, which should pay much more attention to forming China's new teachers training system by renewing their educational concepts, establishing open system of running schools and developing course syllabus and teaching modes with their own characteristics.

On the Development of Foreign Language Proficiency
The article starts with a brief explanation of the notions of linguistic competence, communicative competence and foreign language proficiency. Then it goes on to clarify some misconceptions about our foreign language education. And finally it proposes that we should pay attention to the development of linguistic competence, organize our teaching according to learners' needs, emphasize the learning of communication through communicative interactions, lay stress on the understanding and expression of cultures and cultivate learners' independent learning capacity if we want to develop our learners' foreign language proficiency.
