Fields in Political Science: Concept, Domain and Value
Bai Liyou
Field politics is a new subdiscipline of political science based on fieldwork. A deeper understanding of the field will help advance the study of field politics. The term “field” in political science has unique connotations, the exploration of which can pave the way for explaining and interpreting the political practice, developing and advancing studies of political science in China. Fields originate from the continuation of history, and are hidden in the superposition and interaction of relationships. Most valuable fields are in places where problems are concentrated or contradictions are prominent. The value of fields to political science lies in the awareness of the problem based on the investigation, the research concern of the field atmosphere, the conceptual construction of the field labels, the theoretical innovation rooted in fields, and the training model that can be used for reference. These values support the prosperity and development of field politics. The construction of field politics is not accidental. The research and analysis of the construction of field politics has reference significance and reference value for the construction of other emerging sub-disciplines and the development of Chinese political science.

The Household Foundation of National Modernization in Contemporary China
Chen Ming
The national modernization of traditional China is based on and prototyped by the household system. Since the reform and opening up, the tradition of household system has been engaged in the modernization of contemporary China in the form of modern household through household rationality, which constitutes the impression of the national modernization progression in contemporary China. This household impression, with its historical dynamism, has bred the household foundation of national modernization in contemporary China through transfer and integration of a household-based society, the superposition of the advantages of household-based economy, and the complementary development of household-based politics. In the specific historical progression, household did not hold back the modernization of China due to its traditional role, but instead, it has become the important momentum that drives China’s modernization forward along with the systematic reforms of China’s Communist Party and even evolved into an internal advantage in the national modernization of contemporary China.

Between Advance and Retreat: The Process of the Nationalization of Rural Areas in China since the Reform and Opening up
Lang Youxing Song Tianchu
Nationalization has been an important issue in the rural society of modern China, but there are many differences in understanding nationalization and a lack of a specific framework to analyze it. On the basis of previous studies, this paper constructs a four-dimensional framework (central-local relationship, regime construction, production organization and distribution mode, and property rights ownership), and analyzes the process of denationalization and re-nationalization of rural areas since China’s reform. Through the analysis, there are three important variables in the nationalization of China’s rural areas: first, political factors, which refer to the ways in which revolutionaries changed and transformed the rural society; second, developmentalism, which does not challenge but strengthens the authority of nationalization, while the developmentalism provides strong support for the authority of nationalization; the third, the reorientation of the role of the state, which means that the state plays an increasingly important role in the rural society, and takes more and more moral responsibility.

Migrant Workers’ Urban Residence Intention, Self-Employment Choice and Changes in Household Registration Discrimination
Jin Weidong Du Yuhong
With the gradual relaxation of restrictions on urban household registration, the recent phenomena of “anti-urbanization” and “reversed household registration discrimination” are obviously contrary to the existing theoretical cognition of urbanization. Therefore, this paper adopts the methods of counterfactual analysis, Brown decomposition and instrumental variables to explore the correlative logic between the urbanization of migrant workers and their employment situations, and finds that the “reversed household registration discrimination” does occur between urban and rural laborers, and migrant workers’ residence intention is an important reason for this change in household registration discrimination. Further mechanism analysis shows that non-discriminatory economic factors reduce migrant workers’ residence intention. The consequential involution of social identity drives migrant workers to aim at “making more money” and prefer to choose industries with poor working conditions in order to obtain higher compensatory wages, so they earn more than urban laborors. It leads to the “reverse of household registration discrimination”.

Does the Liquidity of Organizational Slack Influence M&A Decisions of Cultural Enterprises?
Pan Ailing Sun Lei
Organizational slack is the actual or potential resources available that could be redeployed, and its liquidity level will influence M&A decisions of cultural enterprises. Based on M&A events initiated by the A-share cultural and media companies listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2014 to 2019 and considering the internal and external situational factors, along with the characteristics of cultural enterprises, this paper analyzes the relationship between organizational slack liquidity and M&A decisions of cultural enterprises. Results show that the level of organizational slack liquidity is positively correlated with the willingness of implementing M&A, as well as the M&A size and frequency. The higher the liquidity level is, the more likely cultural enterprises are to carry out M&A, make larger transactions, and more inclined to proceed continuous M&A. A further study on M&A transaction designs shows that organizational slack liquidity promotes the use of cash payment to complete transactions and increases the M&A premium level. Under the circumstance of low financing constraints and high management autonomy, the allocation and utilization of slack resources is more dynamic and has a greater degree of freedom. The research conclusions expand the research literature by showing that organizational slack affects M&A decisions of cultural enterprises from the perspective of liquidity, and can provide practical inspiration for cultural enterprises to manage organizational slack and make M&A investment decisions.

The Influencing Factors and Action Approaches for the Effect of Intergovernmental Collaboration in Governance of Cross-Domain Environmental Pollution——A Qualitative Comparative Analysis Based on Twelve Cases
Rao Changlin Zhao Sixu
Intergovernmental collaborative governance is regarded as an important means to solve the problem of cross-domain environmental pollution, but the practice of intergovernmental collaboration may produce collaborative inertia that makes the collaboration difficult to achieve. Based on 12 cases, this paper adopts the method of Crisp-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis and constructs the “structure-process” analysis framework to explore the complicated influence mechanism on the effect of intergovernmental collaborative governance in cross-domain environmental pollution. The results show that none of the six conditional variables, including direct promoters, is a necessary condition for effective intergovernmental collaborative governance of cross-domain environmental pollution. Further configuration analysis finds that effective intergovernmental collaborative governance of cross-domain environmental pollution presents different action paths and characteristics due to the different scales of collaboration. In interprovincial collaboration, there are two effective paths: interestdriven and authority-driven, and the effective interprovincial government collaborative governance presents the characteristics of local autonomy, so signing intergovernmental agreements is the key element. Effective intergovernmental collaborative governance within the province has only one function path, which is driven by assessment, and is characterized by the leadership of the higher-level government. The establishment of an assessment mechanism is the key element.

The Experience of Developed Countries in Constructing the System of Modern Cultural Industry in the “Intelligence+” Era——Reflections on China’s Path from the Comparative Perspective
Xie Xuefang He Hongfei
In the “Intelligence+” era, intelligent technology is highly consistent with the connotation of “modernity” in the system of modern cultural industry, which enriches the strategic significance of the modern cultural industry. From the international comparative perspective, the common experience of major developed countries in constructing the system of modern cultural industry in the “Intelligence+” era is as follows: attaching importance to the innovation of cultural and art content, and empowering the cultural industry chain by science and technology; establishing an cooperation network of cultural innovation and the innovation of science and technology, and promoting the coordinated development of cultural industries with related industries such as science and technology; optimizing the institutional arrangements of the digital and intelligent era, and implementing the strategy of deep integration of culture and technology; unleashing the vitality in emerging markets such as digital cultural consumption, and strengthening the international competitiveness of digital culture industry. In view of this, it is urgent for China to learn from and evaluate the foreign experience in order to improve the system of modern cultural industry in the “Intelligence+” era, and construct an improvement path from four dimensions. First, we need to strengthen predictive institutional arrangements and top-level design for the coordinated development of culture, science and technology, and optimize the ecological environment of modern cultural industry in the “Intelligence+” era; second, it is important to promote the content innovation and the deep integration of culture and intelligent technology, and drive the comprehensive upgrade of modern cultural industrial chain and value chain; third, we should build the AI cultural industry cluster and other new business clusters and the cooperative network of cultural innovation and the innovation of science and technology, and promote the crossover linkage and transition among industries; fourth, it is necessary to establish a new development pattern of AI cultural dual circle, and foster collaborative innovation on both the supply side and the demand side.

The Effects of Cultural Ecological Factors on the Spatial Distribution of Intangible Cultural Heritage in County Areas of China——A Research Based on Social-Ecological System (SES) Framework
Hou Tao, Wang Yahua,
The cultural ecology of county and rural areas is closer to the original environment of intangible cultural heritage than that of the cities. It is of great significance to study the spatial distribution and influencing factors of the intangible cultural heritage in China’s county areas. Based on the SES framework, this paper constructs influencing factor models to figure out the potential cultural and ecological factors which may have significant impacts on the quantity of intangible cultural heritage resources in the county areas in China. The following conclusions are obtained: 1. As direct conditions for nourishing and nurturing intangible cultural heritage resources, the internal environmental cultural factors such as material cultural heritage and traditional villages have the most significant impact on the stock of intangible cultural heritage resources in county areas. 2. The stable population size of the county is a necessary foundation to ensure the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage. 3. The influence of natural ecological and economic factors on the distribution of intangible cultural heritage resources with different occupational attributes is differentiated: intangible cultural heritage projects with weak occupational attributes have a strong dependence on the native natural environment and are more vulnerable to the negative impact of economic development and industrialization, while intangible cultural heritage projects with strong occupational attributes are insensitive to natural environment conditions and more likely to benefit from economic development.

On Three Topics of “Biography of Wu Zixu” in Records of the Grand Historian
Wang Xianpei
“Biography of Wu Zixu” is one of the chapters in Records of the Grand Historian to which Sima Qian devotes the most of his life experience and pursuit. It is a specimen of the style of Records of the Grand Historian. It also generates some topics for further discussions. First, Records of the Grand Historian is different from Zuo Zhuan for its additional plot of Wu Zixu whipping the corpse of King Ping of Chu, which enables the author to engage his emotions in the narration and description, at the cost of weakening the credibility of details. This is due to the poetic narrative style of Records of the Grand Historian, which is representation of Sima Qian’s philosophy of history. Second, Wu Zixu said that his revenge against King Ping of Chu was “reverse action”, indicating that he refused to compromise and restraint in the process of resisting the tyrant. Sima Qian expressed his repugnance and criticism of the imperial theology of the Han Dynasty in a roundabout and brave way. Third, Sima Qian praised Wu Zixu as a “upright man”, indicating that Wu waited patiently for his chance, not ashamed of being humiliated, and firmly pursued to realize his value in life, which were Sima Qian’s own life creeds. To clarify these issues is helpful to deepen the understanding of the poetic characteristics of Sima Qian’s historiography.

A Study on Dayu’s Alchemy Narration in Wei Shu
Zhang Jiuqing
There are abundant narratives of Dayu in Wei Shu (Chinese esoteric and oracular literature), some of which show an obvious tendency of alchemy, such as Dayu was born from the divine pearl Yiyi and the goddess descended from the heaven after he successfully controlled floods. There are two major reasons for this tendency. On the one hand, the narration of Dayu in the pre-Qin period has already had the tendency of alchemy, and on the other hand, the content of alchemy reflects the cultural background of Wei Shu. Both the narrative of Dayu’s mother who swallowed the divine power and gave birth to Dayu, and the narrative of the descending goddess after Dayu’s success in controlling floods are mainly related to disease treatment and health care. Moreover, the significance of the holy king’s virtue is also manifested through his rising to immortality. When the intellectual context of Wei Shu is restored, its potential cultural value and the significance of ideological history can be fully revealed.

The Hero as Man of Letters: The Reception of Modern Chinese Left-wing Writers by the Prague School of Sinology
Liu Yun
The Prague School of Sinology has achieved fruitful research results by focusing on the works of modern Chinese left-wing writers. However, those works have also been considered by the other sinology community as those of little academic value, influenced by official ideology. In fact, with in-depth study of their works, we can find that the Prague School of Sinology was not passively swayed by official ideology, but rather, in contrast to European history and culture, it understood the important role of Chinese left-wing writers and their works in promoting the development of Chinese history, starting from the real needs of Chinese social reality. Left-wing writers appeared as Heroes in the sight of Prague School of Sinology, showing three characters: romantic heroes with individualism, Marxist revolutionary heroes and Confucian traditional moral heroes. These characters not only reflect the richness of Chinese left-wing writers and their dynamic characters as well, but also reflect the uniqueness of Prague School’s study of Chinese literature, which conveys both social ideals and moral concerns in their academic research, trying to remedy the crisis of European culture in the 20th century with the spirit of Chinese culture.

From Classical to Modern: Chinese Resources of Literary Ethics
Gao Xudong Chen Ruiqi
Ethical literary criticism bases itself on the ethical and moral value of literature, and discusses the ethical characteristics and moral connotations of literature. As one of the few critical methods constructed by Chinese scholars since the modern times, although it was first proposed by foreign literary scholars, its origin should be traced back to Chinese cultural tradition. Chinese cultural spirit is rooted in the Confucian tradition, which is centered upon ethics. Therefore, the strong ethical characteristics are not only reflected in classical Chinese literature and criticism, but also have a profound impact on modern Chinese literary criticism represented by Liang Shiqiu. This ethical consciousness has strong and lasting vitality. The ethical spirit contained in Chinese culture nourishes ethical literary criticism. We can expand this theoretical method in breadth and depth, and then, with the attitude of cultural confidence, we can construct the theoretical discourse of ethical literary criticism that has both universal significance and Chinese characteristics. Therefore, the construction of ethical literary criticism at this moment is in special demand of our attention to its Chinese resources.

Exploring the Business Road: A Study on China’s Participation in Osaka Exhibition in 1903
Di Hongting
In order to lead the development of industry, Japanese government held the 5th National Industrial Exhibition in Osaka. China was invited to select exhibits and participate in the event. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs was commanded to investigate the situation of local product business in China, so as to to collect business intelligence and strengthen commercial exchanges, and expand its international influence. In response to this invitation, Chinese officials and businessmen were affected by various factors at home and abroad, such as hesitant decision-making, slow response, and improper selection of exhibits. In some areas, the Japanese were even empowered to overstep, which caused political humiliations to China. The poor performance at the exhibition made the visitors deeply aware of the huge gap between Chinese and foreign products, as well as the drawbacks of the official monopoly, the lack of coordination between local governments, and the foreign interference. Afterwards, the Qing government learned from this experience, reformed the participation system of international exhibitions, and enhanced the cooperation between officials and businessmen. Local governments tried to set up their own expositions as well. The series of measures have greatly promoted the modernization process of China’s exhibitions.

From the Traditional Flower Fair,“Decadent Temple Houses” to Modern Expositions: Local Politics and Space Improvement of Qingyang Palace in Chengdu(1906—1937)
Fan Ying
Before and after the First Sino-Japanese War (1894—1895), the discussion of changing the city’s traditional temple fairs into modern industrial expositions was frequently reported in newspapers. In 1906, Chengdu, an inland city, took the lead in putting it into practice. Unlike other city fairs held in factories, parks, or newly built venues, the expositions in Chengdu were born out of the Flower Fair at the Taoist temple Qingyang Palace. In the late Qing Dynasty, the local governors decided to hold expositions at the original site of Qingyang Palace Flower Fairs, in hope of transforming folk customs and reforming the society while revitalizing industry and commerce. In early Republican China, the Sichuan government was controlled by warlords, and the expositions were abolished and re-established for several times, but the Follower Fair was still carried on due to the inertia of folk tradition. As a temporary space for public exhibition, Qingyang Palace not only became a field of the display and gaming of different forces, for its concentration of the city’s main capital forces and political powers, but also attracted the keen attention of public opinion and media because of the extensive participation of merchants and the public. Thus, the Qingyang Palace became the center of social relations. The process of the local government holding expositions in Qingyang Palace and implementing the spatial improvement, surged with the pulsation of modern ideological trends, the cunning of local politics, the deep planted traditional customs and the game of various social forces, engraved the difficult process of the birth, reshaping and production of modernity in an inland traditional city.

The Reconstruction of Memories and Political Integration:An Analysis of Exhibition Activitiesin Taiwan after the Victory of Counter-Japanese War(1945—1949)
Zheng Chenglin
After the victory of Counter-Japanese War, the Nationalist government attached great importance to the reconstruction of Taiwan, and at the same time, it took various measures to reshape the collective memory and national identity of Taiwan society. Based on this, in the early period of the restoration of China, Taiwan held various exhibitions with rich contents. At first, the exhibitions were mainly about political and military photos, and then domestic products. During the Taiwan Province Expo, the exhibition focused on “various achievements in construction of the province”. These exhibitions not only reshaped the sense of time and space and cultural identity of Taiwan society, but also strengthened the relations between Taiwan and mainland China, thus strengthening the political integration of the Nationalist government in Taiwan. The main purpose of the Taiwan Province Expo is to show the achievements of the Nationalist government in governing Taiwan, but also reflects the complex aspects of Taiwan’s political society and public psychology after the war.

“Life-Practice” Education: Connotations, Goals and Paths
Liu Laibing Zhou Hongyu
“Life-practice” education is the creative transformation and development of the life education theory. It takes the practical philosophy of Marxism as its theoretical horizon and actively explores the Chinese experience of the reform of education. It is based on the perspective of life and practice, aiming at understanding the nature and purpose of education, the existence and value of real life, so that education enables students to create a better life through life and practice. The connotations of“life-practice” education include that education comes from life and practice; education is achieved through life and practice; education is for the purpose of life and practice. The basic goals are to cultivate students’ independence, vitality, learning ability, practical ability, cooperation and innovation, and to promote the all-round development of human beings. Under the policy of“double reduction”, the practical paths for“life-practice” education to bring its educational function into full play are to break through the rigid classroom space, create open learning space for students, meet the diverse needs of students, create high-quality after-school services for students, and join hands with family and social education to build a healthy after-school life for students.

Asymmetrical Recognition: Constructing a New Educational Relationship
Zhao Hua Feng Jianjun
Recognition is an important issue in the field of social philosophy. Different from the field of social philosophy, which emphasizes self-awareness through the recognition of others,Levinas’ethics of the other expresses a passive asymmetrical relationship of recognition, the essence of which is unconditional acceptance and respect for others. In education, the ultimate goal of our appeal to recognition is to achieve a dignified educational life in which differences coexist. However, the heterogeneity of recognition that emerges in educational interactions fundamentally dissolves human heterogeneity and makes educational relationships progressively homogenized. By virtue of Levinas’ethics of the other, the asymmetrical recognition of the unconditional “for the other” maximizes the dignity of human beings. In this sense, the educational relationship should move toward a relationship of recognition“for the other”,and through the creation of a dialogic space of asymmetrical recognition,we can move toward a dignified educational life in an ethical relationship that is responsible for the other.

On the Boundary of Primary and Middle School Autonomy in the Stage of High-Quality Development
Pu Rui
In order to build a high-quality education system, enhance the vitality of school management and break the vicious circle between the government and the school, it is necessary to make clear the boundary of the autonomy of running a school. To delimit the boundary of the autonomy of running primary and middle schools, we must proceed from the organizational attributes of primary and middle schools, delimit the boundary accordingly, and analyze the composition of the boundary of school-running autonomy. Based on the particularity of school as a legal person organization, professional organization and public organization, the boundary of school autonomy is characterized by the legal boundary, professional boundary and ethical boundary. In order to abide by the legal boundary of school-running autonomy, it is necessary to further improve the level of legalization of education. To abide by the professional boundary, it is necessary to realize scientific decentralization within primary and secondary schools, limit the administrative power within schools, and fully protect teachers’ teaching autonomy and students’ learning autonomy. To abide by the ethical boundary, it is necessary to adhere to the people-centered principle and improve the democratic decision-making mechanism within the school, so that important educational stakeholders can truly participate in the decision-making of school.

The Realistic Context, Typical Representations and Institutional Logic of the Vitality of Rural School Running
Fan Yongkun
It has become the theme of the times that people can enjoy quality education services at their doorstep, and the premise of running school well is to stimulate the vitality of school education. The phenomenon that people are not satisfied with the education despite of the large amount of resource input makes it necessary to reflect upon the “resource input hypothesis”. The essence of the vitality of running a rural school rests on whether the main body of the school can actively find ideas, methods and strategies when dealing with challenges in resources, information, and mechanisms, so as to change the school from rigid and conservative to vital. The expressive dimension of the vitality of running a school is relatively complex. The freedom that stimulates the enthusiasm of the main body, the innovation in providing the development impetus, the openness based on the participation of multiple subjects, and the development centered upon adults constitute its typical representations. In stimulating the vitality of running schools, managers should adhere to “criticism-based rationalism”, build a rural school governance system with modern characteristics, improve the innovation ability of rural school governance, and realize the sustainability of the main body of governance.
