Abstract:Artificial photosynthetic systems have high light absorption efficiency, but it is difficult to synthesize compounds with high added value. Microorganisms, on the other hand, can synthesize various macromolecular compounds using enzymes with high specificity, which can self-repair and self-replicate in vivo. Combined with the advantages of the two systems, the hybrid photosynthetic system provides a clean, efficient, economical and sustainable development way for the synthesis of chemicals. In recent years, scientists have achieved preliminary results in the production of biodegradable material poly-β-hydroxybutyrate using a hybrid photosynthetic system. Here, we introduce the research progress of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate production by hybrid photosynthetic system from two aspects: hybrid photosynthetic systems coupled with photocatalysts and microorganisms and microbial electrosynthetic system and the existing problems of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate production by this system. Besides, its future development direction is prospected.
