Abstract:This paper discuses the geography factors of the development of Hankou city in the Ming and Qing dynasty whose aim is to provide historial experience for modern construction of Hankou. The remove of Hanshui River mouth forms the base of Hankou city and then continues to expand along the Yangze River and Hanshui River, and finaly reaches the scale at present. Owing to the lifting of the ban to foreigners in trade in 1861 and the superiority of geography position which lies to the center of China and middle reach of Changjiang, the economic development of Hankou led to the formation of the best commerce and trade center island in China cause, the war and flooding disaster in the historical period were factors destroied to the development of Hankou city.
