Abstract：Studies on the effect of nutritional factors on the cell growth and alkaloids formation in suspension culture of Pinellia ternata(Thunb.)Breit was carried out. The results showed that glucose was better than sucrose for cell growth and alkaloids synthesis and the optimum concentration was 2%~5%. Although inositol had little effect on the cell growth, 100 mg/L inositol was best for alkaloids synthesis. Calcium and EDTA-Fe had obvious effects on the cell growth and alkaloids production and the optimum concentrations were 1.8~3.0 mmol/L and 0.06 mmol/L respectively.
