Abstract：Geo-Information service (GIService) includes distributed geospatial data service, distributed geoprocessing service, and resource-managed service. The requirements and feasibilities of the development from tangible geographic information system (GISystem) to intangible GIService are analyzed deeply from six basic viewpoints: geospatial information viewpoint, geoprocessing viewpoint, software engineering viewpoint, technology viewpoint, business viewpoint and industrialization viewpoint. GIService changes design and application modes of GISystem and effectively resolves Geo-Information sharing and interoperation. It is the inevitable trend of GISystem development from GISystem to GIService.
