Abstract:To investigate the anti-hepatocellular carcinoma effects of Chi-Shen extract (CSE) from the water-solubility compounds of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Paeoniae radix, MTT assay was used to examine the growth inhibitory effects of CSE on human hepatoma cell line (HepG2). CSE revealed significant inhibitory effects against HepG2 cell proliferation in a dose-and time-dependent manner. Furthermore, the induction of apoptosis by CSE in HepG2 cells was observed with AO/EB fluorescence stain. CSE treatment was found to result in the up-regulation of Bax and p53 mRNA expression, and down-regulation of Bcl-2 mRNA expression dose-dependently.
