Abstract：With the appearance of the next generation network, XML-based network management has been proposed the hot topic of network management. In the XML-based network management, protocol translation gateway is used to realize compatible management towards XML, SNMP and non SNMP devices. This paper presents the model of the universal protocol translation gateway, also researches the key technologies in it, and provided the specific scenario of the model. This universal translational gateway can realize integrated and united management towards many devices supporting different network management protocols, compared to the simple gateway; it has the merits of university and scalability.
