Abstract:To study the chemical constituents of Euphorbia hirta L., the chemical constituents were isolated and purified by solvent extraction method, the normal and reverse phase silica gel column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC. Eleven compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of Euphorbia hirta L. and their structures were elucidated on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic analysis and the compounds were identified as taraxerol (1), taraxerone (2), cycloart-23-ene-3β,25-diol (3), 25-hydroperoxycycloart-23-en-3β-ol (4), vomifoliol (5), loliolide (6), β-sitosterol (7), cucurbic acid (8), 9,16-dioxo-10,12,14-octadeca-trienoic acid (9), hexadec-3-enoic acid (10), and tetracosanoic acid (11), respectively. Compound 5 and compound 9~11 were isolated from this plant for the first time.
