Abstract:Since 1965, the writer began to collect samples of the Zygnemataceaee. From these samples, eighty species and three forms have been identified. Among them, fifteen species and two forms (i. e. Zygnema clegan, Zygnemopsis glabrata, Mougeotia compress, M. subpulchella, Spirogyra ampliata, S. arcuata, S. bireticulata, S. bullata Jao f minor, S. gibbcrosa f. dissimilis, S. heterospora, S. oblonga, S. pseudoplena, S. speciosa, S. superba, S. wuchangensis, S. wuhanensis and S. xiaoganensis) are endemic to Hubei Province; five species [i. e., Mougcotia gracillim (Hassall) Wittrock, Spirogyra aphanosculpta Skuja, S. heeriana Nageli, S. jatoba(?) Transeau and S. moebii Transeau] are new records for China. The Zygnemataceae are Widely distributed in various shallow water bodies of Hubei Ptovince and contain a large number of subtropical and tropical elements.
