Abstract:Tent camping has emerged as a pivotal driver in today's tourism development by virtue of its immersive experiential qualities, flexible travel modalities, and great industry growth potential. The study investigates the spatial-temporal behaviors, trajectory characteristics and influencing factors of tent campers in Wuhan through the collection of large samples of digital footprints, combined with text analysis, GIS spatial technology and mathematical statistical models. Results are shown as follows. 1) Tent camping is concentrated in May, October and November, with obvious seasonal concentration, and the majority of single camping activities are short-term overnight stays lasting 1-2 days. 2) The activity space of tent campers in Wuhan presents a pattern of “dense center, sparse suburb, and two cores expanding”, with the public recreation campgrounds in the central urban area becoming the campers' gathering area; 3) The activity trajectory of tent campers in Wuhan is classified into two patterns: intra-regional radiation and cross-regional diffusion, with the overall pattern of radiation from the core urban area to the outside. The movement pattern is characterized by radial expation from the city core , with the most frequent movement corridors identified as: Hankou District to Mulan Camp Area in Huangpi District, Hongshan District to Liangzi Lake Camp Area in Jiangxia District and Hongshan District to Mulan Camp Area in Huangpi District. 4) Per capita disposable income, transportation accessibility, season, and companion type significantly influence tent campers' campsite selection and length of stay within certain value ranges. However, the direction and magnitude of these effects vary across different variables.
