Abstract：From the perspective of the development of western economics, this paper analyzes the development of western social security theory and expounds western economists' opinions on such problems as: social security and economic development, social security and government inference, social security and welfare, social security and welfare innovation, and social security and sustainable development. On the basis of the discussion above, this paper further points out the advantages of western social security theory which can be made use of in China.
