Abstract:This thesis expounds the linear features of primitive thinking and the impact they have had upon the formal presentation of primitive art by means of lines. The linear features of primitive art entail two things, namely, the linear structure guided by sense of order and the line-based presentation methods. Then it expounds from the following three perspectives: first, the linear permutations and combinations based on sense of order and guided by the rule of similarity; second, the necessary production of line art of which the purpose is to simulate the contour of the object; third, the effect that technology and tool of production have upon the production of line art. The thesis also briefly investigates the impact that line art has had upon later mature art.
