Abstract:Absorbing aesthetics into his spiritual philosophy system, using new concepts and methods, Hume discusses some big issues proposed by modern aesthetics and pushed Britain empirical philosophy up to a new peak. He emphases aesthetics' study on emotion and thinks that the essence of beauty is the delighted feelings caused by the suitableness of objects for subjects' minds and he creatively puts forward the theory of sympathy and the theory of efficiency. Hume is the first who comprehensively expounds the field of "taste" and deeply discusses the standards of it, which represents the highest level of that time. Hume's effect on poems' creation and tragedy appreciation and his discussion on the development of literature and art greatly enrich the western aesthetics.
