Abstract:Compared with the traditional Bildungsromen, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young man by J. Joyce shows the author's bold innovation in its narrative style. In this novel, the author narrates the story by employing the third person internal focalization. The application of this point of view realizes the absolute objective narration, creates the precedent of only narrating the story of a Bildungsroman with the narrating time approximately equivalent to the story developing time and makes less important or unimportant the story plot in a Bildungsroman. Thus, the author produces a unique stream of consciousness experimental Bildungsroman.
