Abstract:China's international food trade in modern times was an unfair and plunderous one which imperialist powers used their privileges to dump rice and flour to China and plunder Chinese agricultural resources such as soybeans and soybean cakes. The basic source of this was that the imperialist powers obtained a series of political and economic privileges by force and controlled China's political and economic lifeline, resulting in China's loss of decision making power in trade and trade tariff. Other important reasons were the heavy pressure of China's huge population and the unwise trade tariff policies of the corrupt Qing Dynasty which fawned on foreign powers and oppressed the people.
