Abstract:The study of women is a brand new knowledge system b ased on the fundamental principle of equality between men and women. As the resu lt and the extension of women's movement, the women's studies in Korea initially challenges the deep footed patriarchy and male-centred culture. In recent deca des, with the common efforts of the scholars on the study of women, female socia l activists and government, Korean women's consciousness of independence has awa kened and their social participation are constantly extending and social status has being greatly elevated. Despite all these achievements, they still have a ra ther long way to go as to achieve the material equality with men. owing to the t raditional cultural perspectives and unequal systems.
