Abstract:Wuhai is a typical resource-based city, which is located in Northwest China. The sustainable development of Wuhai will be affected by the gradual depletion of coal resources, Ecological carrying capacity is an important indicator of sustainable development. With the medium and high resolution Remote Sensing data, the distribution of industrial and mining enterprises and the variation of land use were monitored, and the influence of the variation of land use on the ecological carrying capacity of Wuhai was also analyzed. The results were as following: comparing with 2004, the amount of industrial and mining enterprises increased 41 in 2014 and the increase rate was 49.4%. Since the increase of the amount of industrial and mining enterprises and their occupation of ecologically land area such as grass and water, the ecological carrying capacity per capita of Wuhai decreased from 0.309 hm2/person to 0.265 hm2/person.
